Buffy, having spent the summer with her father in LA, returns to Sunnydale a changed person. She still hasn't learned to cope with the traumatic experience she endured with the Master and takes it out on those closest to her. Meanwhile, the Anointed One tries to bring The Master back from the grave.

When the bodies of girls are being dug up in Sunnydale, Buffy soon finds out that someone is trying to build the perfect woman using the body parts of different people.

A dangerous new vampire named Spike comes to town, hoping to use the power of the Hellmouth to restore his love, Drusilla, to health. He has killed two Slayers before, and he decides to make Buffy the third, attacking Sunnydale High on Parent Teacher Night. Buffy must find a way to stop Spike and his vampire minions, lead her mom and the other parents and students to safety, and keep them from finding out that she is the Slayer.

When Buffy and her mom decide to take in a foreign exchange student, they later find out she is really an Inca mummy who sucks the life out of innocent people.

When Buffy reluctantly agrees to attend a fraternity party with Cordelia, the two of them end up being offered as human sacrifices to a giant snake-like demon.

On Halloween Buffy, Willow and Xander are "volunteered" by Principal Snyder to take groups of kids trick-or-treating. When most of the kids in Sunnydale magically become whatever they were dressed as, it is up to soldier-Xander and ghost-Willow to find a way to break the spell and defend Buffy, who is now a weak and frail 18th century noblewoman.

When Ford, a friend from Buffy's past, pays her a visit in Sunnydale, she struggles to try and keep her secret from him. However she soon learns that he knows more about her than she realizes, and that he wishes to become the very thing Buffy fights against.

Giles' past comes back to haunt him when the demon Eyghon comes to Sunnydale endangering everyone he knows.

Spike wanting to cure Dru, summons the Order of Taraka - a group of deadly assassins, to keep Buffy occupied. Meanwhile, a new slayer comes to Sunnydale.

When Buffy finds out of Spike's plans to cure Drusilla by means of a ritual that will kill Angel, she and her new slayer friend Kendra team up to put a stop to his plans.

Everybody has fallen in love with Joyce's perfect new boyfriend, Ted, except for Buffy who can't shake the feeling that there is something strange about him.

For a Health class assignment, the students are supposed to learn about parenting by carrying around eggs. Buffy soon learns that these aren't your ordinary eggs and are a part of a much bigger plan.

When the gang learns of Spike and Drusilla's plans to assemble the Judge, an extremely powerful demon, they try to stop it from happening. They end up failing, but Buffy and Angel manage to escape after nearly being killed. They then make the mistake of taking their relationship to the next level, not knowing of the dangerous repercussions that lie ahead.

Just as Angel decides to suck the world into hell through the use of the demon Acathla, Willow and Buffy discover Jenny's soul restoration ritual and the gang is torn on what to do. Meanwhile, Angel plays a trick on Buffy and when she falls for it, it's her best friends that pay the ultimate price.

Everything in Buffy's world is falling apart as she's determined to stop Angel's plans. With the help of an unexpected ally, she heads over to have one final showdown with Angel, and ends up having to make the ultimate sacrifice.
